How to be kind to yourself

Self-care is an important part of life, and it’s essential to be kind to yourself. For most of us, self kindness is not a default setting and we can be our own harshest critics. Yes you know you need to love yourself first in order to be happy, but how do you actually go about it in a practical sense?

Here are some tips to help you practice self-kindness:

1. Give yourself permission to take breaks - Breaks are essential for recharging and resetting. Take a few minutes out of your day to do something you enjoy, like reading a book, listening to music, or going for a walk.

2. Speak kindly to yourself - When you catch yourself being critical, stop and take a moment to reframe your thoughts in a more positive light.

3. Celebrate your wins - It’s easy to focus on the negative and forget to recognize the successes in our lives. Make sure to take a moment to celebrate your accomplishments and give yourself a pat on the back.

4. Practice mindfulness - Mindfulness is a great way to stay present and cultivate self-awareness. Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath and be mindful of your thoughts and feelings.

5. Forgive yourself - Mistakes are inevitable, and it’s important to forgive yourself and move on.

7. Find a support system - Surround yourself with positive people who lift you up and make you feel good.
